Near Protocol is automating its scaling infrastructure. The layer-1 blockchain will roll out "dynamic resharding" in June, a technical milestone designed to eliminate human intervention from database partitioning. The market reacted instantly, sending the native NEAR token into a double-digit rally.
NEAR jumped 18% over the last 24 hours, outperforming the broader altcoin market as daily trading volume surged past $650 million. The token is currently testing local resistance levels, driven by speculation that automated scaling will give Near a structural advantage over rigid rivals like Ethereum and Solana.
The upgrade addresses a fundamental bottleneck in blockchain architecture. Sharding splits a network into smaller, faster pipelines to process transactions in parallel. Currently, adding new shards requires manual coordination, governance votes, and hard forks. Under the June update, Near's protocol will monitor network load in real time, automatically spinning up new shards when demand spikes and merging them when traffic subsides.
This is a major shift for decentralized applications. Instead of developers worrying about gas fee spikes during high-traffic NFT mints or sudden DeFi liquidations, the network adjusts its capacity on the fly. It is a hands-off approach to scalability that few other layer-1 networks have managed to implement successfully.
However, automated execution carries inherent risks. If the algorithm miscalculates validator load or if synchronization lags during a rapid shard split, the network could face temporary liveness issues or consensus delays. The transition phase will test the resilience of Near's validator network, which must adapt to dynamic hardware requirements without warning.
Traders should monitor the upcoming testnet trials scheduled for late May. The critical watch item is the official mainnet deployment date in mid-June, alongside NEAR's ability to hold the $6.80 support level. If the integration succeeds without network downtime, it could trigger a sustained re-rating of the asset.
