What is CryptoCycleIndex?

CryptoCycleIndex (CCI for short) is a composite indicator that identifies the stage of the cryptocurrency market cycle and provides context for your own trading decisions.
CCI determines the current phase of the crypto market using 7 key indicators: MVRV Z-Score, Fear & Greed Index, Weekly RSI, MA200 Trend, Funding Rate, BTC Dominance and Market Breadth.

MVRV Z-Score is a widely used Bitcoin cycle indicator. It historically helps identify market phases: undervaluation zones and elevated risk zones.

The CryptoCycleIndex blends MVRV Z-Score (60% anchor) with a context layer (40%) made up of 6 indicators: Fear & Greed (27%), Trend MA200 (27%), Weekly RSI (18%), Funding Rate (9%), BTC Dominance (9%), and Market Breadth (10%). This composite score provides a comprehensive picture of market conditions – from bottom to peak of the cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

The site shows the current Bitcoin market phase using CryptoCycleIndex (CCI): a composite 0–100 index where MVRV Z-Score is the main anchor, while Fear & Greed, RSI, MA200 trend, Funding Rate and BTC Dominance add context.
Market phases (CCI):
BOTTOM – CCI 0–20. Market cap below realized value. Historically associated with the most pronounced accumulation zones.
ACCUMULATION – CCI 20–40. Market recovering. Historically characterized by gradual market recovery.
GROWTH – CCI 40–60. Active growth, positive sentiment, not yet overheated.
OVERHEATED – CCI 60–80. Historically elevated risk zone.
PEAK – CCI 80–100. Extreme valuation, historically associated with cycle tops.
Contextual Modifiers:
Extreme Fear – Fear & Greed indicator detecting levels of panic or euphoria in the market.
Fear in Uptrend – Combination of Fear & Greed with MA200 trend structure, detecting panic during a bullish market.
Confirmed Uptrend – Structural price indicator relative to MA200, confirming the strength of the long-term trend.
Recovery from Drawdown – Indicator of rebound from deep drops with oversold RSI.
RSI Oversold / Overbought – Weekly relative strength oscillator marking extreme levels.
Altcoin Season – Indicator of capital flowing from BTC into altcoins based on BTC dominance.
Miner State – Bitcoin hashrate indicator detecting phases of miner capitulation and recovery through the crossing of 30- and 60-day SMAs.
MVRV Z-Score (Market Value to Realized Value) compares Bitcoin's current market capitalization with its "realized" value – the sum at which all coins were last moved. This helps assess whether Bitcoin may be overvalued or undervalued. Historically, values below 1 have coincided with favorable buying zones, while values above 4 have coincided with cycle tops.
Data is automatically updated every 5 minutes. MVRV Z-Score is cached for 10 minutes due to API limitations, Fear & Greed every 5 minutes, and RSI once a day (since it's a weekly indicator). You can also manually refresh the data by clicking the refresh button.
DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) is a strategy of regular purchases for a fixed amount regardless of price. This helps average the entry price and reduce the impact of volatility. For example, if you invest $100 weekly for 6 months, you buy at both lows and highs, getting an average price.
The analysis is based on proven on-chain indicators that have historically shown good correlation with market cycles. However, no indicator provides 100% guarantee. Use CryptoCycleIndex as one of your analysis tools, not the sole source for decision-making. We recommend combining it with your own analysis and considering your risk tolerance.
Altcoin season (Alt Season) is a period when altcoins grow faster than Bitcoin. It's determined through BTC Dominance: when Bitcoin dominance falls below 48-50%, it indicates capital flowing into altcoins. Our Altseason Index shows how favorable conditions are for investing in altcoins.
