World Foundation raises $52.5M selling WLD, locking buyers in for a year

World Foundation completed the first close of a $52.5 million WLD token sale led by Pantera Capital, with other professional investors including Bain Capital Crypto and Susquehanna. Buyers cannot trade or transfer their WLD tokens until at least mid-2027, keeping them off the market in the near term and pointing to longer-term backing for the digital-identity project.
World Foundation has completed the first close of a $52.5 million WLD token sale, the organization announced Friday. The round was led by Pantera Capital and included Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini, and Susquehanna, among other investors.

All tokens sold in this tranche are subject to a one-year lockup, meaning buyers cannot trade or transfer them until at least mid-2027. That structure indicates a longer-term commitment from institutional participants rather than a quick flip.

Pantera, one of the most established crypto-focused venture firms, led the round. Susquehanna – a quantitative trading giant that also makes venture bets – participated alongside Bain Capital Crypto, the digital-asset arm of the private equity firm. Eightco Holdings and Selini filled out the investor list.

World Foundation did not disclose the valuation at which the tokens were sold, nor whether additional closes are planned. The size of this first close – over $50 million – suggests strong demand from professional investors despite the current market climate.

WLD is the native token of the World project, a blockchain initiative focused on digital identity. The token has seen mixed price action since its launch, but the participation of blue-chip institutional names provides a fresh vote of confidence.

For traders, the one-year lockup removes a key near-term supply overhang: none of these newly sold tokens can hit exchanges for at least 12 months. That could reduce downward pressure on WLD in the short run, though it also means the foundation will not have that cash immediately available for operations.

The next catalyst to watch: World Foundation may announce a second close of the sale. If no further tranches materialize, market attention will shift to the unlock date approximately one year from now.
