World Foundation completed the first close of a strategic WLD token sale worth $52.5 million, according to an announcement published Friday. Pantera Capital led the transaction, with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini and Susquehanna, among other investors.
All WLD bought in the sale is subject to a one-year lockup. The restriction keeps these tokens from being traded or transferred during that period, limiting the amount of newly sold WLD that can immediately reach the market.
World Foundation said the tokens are intended for use within World Network. They do not represent an investment interest in World Foundation, a right to share in its profits or equity in Tools for Humanity, the company behind key parts of the World project.
The proceeds are intended to support the global expansion of World ID technology for organizations, consumers and AI systems. World Foundation describes World ID as a way to verify that an online participant is a unique human while limiting the personal information that must be shared.
The organization called the transaction a first close, but did not itself announce another sale. The Block reported that it was unclear whether additional token sales were planned and that a spokesperson declined to comment on the question.
World Foundation said more than 39 million people had joined World Network, including over 18 million verified through an Orb, and that users had completed more than 475 million proof-of-human checks. Those figures describe adoption of the identity system, not guaranteed demand for WLD.
The next verifiable points to watch are any announcement of another token sale and the eventual release of the newly sold WLD after the one-year lockup. Until then, the confirmed facts are the $52.5 million first close, the named investors and the transfer restriction.
World Foundation raises $52.5M selling WLD, locking buyers in for a year
World Foundation completed the first close of a $52.5 million WLD token sale led by Pantera Capital, with other professional investors including Bain Capital Crypto and Susquehanna. Buyers cannot trade or transfer their WLD tokens until at least mid-2027, keeping them off the market in the near term and pointing to longer-term backing for the digital-identity project.
